Have you ever added farina cereal to your pizza crust? Farina, aka, Cream of wheat is the coarsely ground cereal made from the starchy endosperm of the wheat grains. Adding the uncooked raw cereal as a portion of the flour in pizza crust gives the crust a lighter texture but also gives it a little more substance. It is similar in flavor to a more Italian Artisan crust.
Gourmet BBQ Cheeseburger Pizza on Italian Farina Crust
Italian Farina Crust
Organic Grains Farmer’s Porridge Farina| 1 cup
Water| 2 cups
Salt| 1 tsp
Yeast| 1 Tbsp.
Sugar| ¼ cup
Olive Oil| ¼ cup
Organic Grains Bread Flour| 5 cups
Directions: In a Wondermixer from Organic Grains, Combine the Farina Crust ingredients on low speed with the dough hook for 4-5 minutes. Turn off the mixer. Remove the dough hook. Place the lid back on the bowl and allow the dough to rise 30-45 minutes. Lightly oil a 16-inch pizza stone or pan. Lightly sprinkle additional farina on the oiled pan. Roll out the dough to a full 16-inch circle with crust, about ¾ inch thick and place on the prepared pizza pan. Allow the crust dough to rise 15-20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Organic BBQ Sauce| 1 cup
Organic Low-fat Colby-Jack Cheese|2 cups
95% Fat-Free Organic Hamburger, cooked| 12 oz.
Onions, slice| ½ cup
Steak Seasoning| 1 tsp.
Spread the sauce out thinly on the raised crust. Top evenly with cooked hamburger, cheese, onion and a generous sprinkling of steak seasoning.
Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot with a drizzle of blue cheese dressing or ranch and garnish with fresh chopped tomatoes if desired.
